MICNAP Band Instrument
Repair opened for business in September of 1998. Its founder and owner, Michelle
Williamson, strives to provide quality and timely band instrument repair at
a reasonable cost. The business has grown to include servicing the horns of
local band directors and their students, along with those of out-of-state
customers, music stores, and manufacturers.
Michelle, commonly known as Mickey, grew up in south central Pennsylvania
close to where MICNAP Band Instrument Repair is now located. She attended
Cedar Crest High School, graduating in ‘91, and went on to college at Mansfield
University in Mansfield, PA and studied music. Saxophone was her favorite
and major instrument but she couldn’t give up playing flute, clarinet, trumpet,
guitar, and piano. While at college she enjoyed working for a carpenter every
summer and part-time during the school year. After graduating in ’95 with
a BA in music, Michelle searched for a way to combine her music education
with the enjoyment of working with her hands. Musical instrument repair was
the perfect answer and she couldn’t imagine doing anything else...er...well,
except maybe website development.
:-)
Michelle has trained with many top-notch band instrument repair technicians, and in shops around the country, including with Chuck Hagler (former Executive Director of NAPBIRT), at Badger State Repair, Vermont Musical Instrument Repair, Driscol Music, and Yamaha Corporation.
She continues her band instrument repair education by being an active participant in several online forums along with attending musical instrument repair workshops around the country.
